SCREEN CAPTURE
Things that go without saying should be
said more often.
You know the problem. You're on the phone with tech
support and you just can't explain to them what you're looking at. You
try, but your words don't describe it perfectly, and the answers they give
are not helpful.
There is a way to help. A way to take a picture.
A picture worth a thousand words. A
screen shot or screen capture of what you're looking at to send it to
tech support.
It's easy.
(1) Press the PRINT SCREEN key on your keyboard. It
may be labeled PRT SCR and it's usually located to the right of the F12
function key. Note that this key has not actually been used to print
the screen since about 1994.

When you press this key, nothing will appear to have happened. This is
normal.
What you have just done is capture a snapshot of your
current screen into memory. You now have a copy of it in your
clipboard. The clipboard is the COPY/PASTE memory of your computer.
This means you can now PASTE this image capture into a
program and send it, or save it as an image.
SAVE CLIPBOARD IMAGE AS JPEG
(1) Load Microsoft Paint. A free drawing
program included with Windows. If you have a different drawing program
you prefer, you can use it instead. PAINT is usually found under
ACCESSORIES from the START menu.

(2) Once PAINT has loaded, use the PASTE command
from the EDIT menu to paste the clipboard screen capture into the paint
program.

When you do this, a screen copy of the original capture
will appear in the program. At this point, it can get a little confusing
because you'll be looking at a picture that looks exactly like the screen
you just captured.
You
can SAVE it, or SEND it directly to your friend or tech support. If
your email is configured to send directly from programs like this, choosing
SEND from the file menu will send the file as an email attachment directly.
If SEND does not work for you, you'll have to SAVE the
file first, and then send it as an attachment.
ALTERNATIVE:
Having said all that, I recommend a free utility to do
this all for you. It's called GADWIN
Printscreen and it's one of my favourite utilities.
