What is an Earing For?
I have a theory about the history and origins and current use of jewelry, and accessories - including ties.
An unspoken truth that can be an aid to success.
First:
T Shirts are great if they fulfill three uses.
1) Provide a smile
2) Reflect your style or opinion without words
3) Starts a conversation.
The best T shirts start conversations. They come with a story, or they create a story. They allow you, as a human, to break the ice with a smile and a generic "IN" to a conversation with a friend or stranger.
Many people need an opening line, and carrying on on your chest is great.
But tonight I realized, that's all anything you wear is. Jewelry, piercings, tattoos are just elaborate more subtle T Shirts. They allow us to read a book by its cover, or at least read the equivalent of the back cover first impression summary of the book.
It may be wrong, but obviously understandable when humans make assumptions when we see others with tattoos or piercings, or wearing hats or slogan shirts.
The best purpose for a tie, is to allow people to say; "Nice Tie", to which you can leap the conversation to anything you need.
If I compliment your earrings, I am allowing you to thank me and start the conversation.
This is not to ignore the fact that these items may also be attractive or add beauty to your appearance. Fashion accessories or personal grooming or body art can all be nice to look at, but I believe their prime function isn't to look at, but to comment on. They allow us to offer compliments on different aspects each day - rather than just saying; "you look pretty again today" every time we meet. Instead, I can compliment your choice. You have chosen well, and decided to wear or compliment your look with something that pleases me. I comment, and a conversation starts.
In fact, for people like me that don't easily start conversations without a crutch, I should thank you.
Thank you for piercing your nose. It allows me to talk to you. I can easily say; "Cool Nose Ring" and the conversation has begun - painlessly.
My T Shirt would say; "YOU START. I'LL REACT"
